I always like to make analogies about things I encounter in life. Embrace this new outlook.
This weekend it snowed and walking to school Monday morning was not fun at all. I fell about a minute leaving from my house and slid all over the place across a parking lot. I blame it on shoes and forgetting how to walk on snow. Well all day long I would walk with my head down, looking at the ground that was right under my nose. Later that day, I started looking around at the people walking past me on the sidewalk. Their heads weren't down. I thought, "How in the world can they manage to look around without slipping on something?!" This is when I made a connection. I didn't need to look at the ground right under my nose, I needed to look ahead. When I kept my gaze about a foot in front of me, I was better prepared to handle the snow/ice that I would come in contact with. Just like in life, if we only focus on what is going on right in the moment we will miss so many things and be unprepared for a handful of things life will throw at us. If we don't think about how we are going to finance our education or provide for our families, when the time comes we will find ourselves slipping on unpredicted ice and snow. That pain could have been avoided if we had only looked ahead.
