BYU Devotional: Elder Holland

Yesterday we had the opportunity to listen to Elder Holland speak at our BYU Devotional. I normally don't go to the Marriott Center. I attempt to listen to it at work, which never happens because I can't turn my volume up that loud. So I decided to skip an hour of work and go listen to him in person.
I was really impressed with his talk. The topic was entitled, "Remember Lot's Wife". He told us that we should forget any past mistakes that we have made or that others have made and pay attention to not bring them back up. It is against the purpose of the Atonement to bring up past sins that we have already repented of and Christ has suffered for.
It was interesting, on Sunday I made the comment in Sunday School that we need to learn to forgive ourselves and forget the past mistakes that we have made. Christ has already said that if a man has repented of his sins, he will remember them no more. That is a great comfort to me. It also gives us all room to move on. Faith is required to move on.
I know that I have done things in my life that have had an impact on my life, whether good or bad. I am thankful for my mistakes because I learned from them. Elder Holland says "We should forget our past mistakes and remember them just enough not to do them again."

Our Heavenly Father does love us. He has sent His Son, Jesus Christ into the world to carry out the Atonement and provide us all with a way to return into his presence again. I know that people can change for the better. I know that if we repent with a sincere heart and covenant to never repeat the sin again, our Father and His Son will forgive us and remember our sins no more. Our conscience can be put to rest, our guilt can be swept away, and we can be made clean again through his infinite Atonement. I leave these thoughts with you in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
