So I'm reading Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe, to warn you, it is not like movie. Most of it is, but the book reveals the true intentions of the author.
Here's a line that I ran across while reading tonight,
"There are magnificent beings on this earth, son, that are walking around posing as humans."
Idgie was saying this to Buddy Jr. after he had said he thought that Railroad Bill was the bravest person he knew.
I guess everyone has different opinions on who they think the bravest or most courageous person is. So I'll share with you who I think embodies this quote.
1. My Dad
Even though I didn't get to be around my Dad for a long time he taught me so many things. He is a wonderful example of righteous living. He magnified his callings and was always willing to lend a hand. He taught me the true meaning of service. It was beside him that I learned it's better to help others first than to think of ourselves. When he was sick, he was so strong. I remember seeing him try to walk; how desperately he wanted to walk. I'm sure it was devastating to him that he had to go through this illness and know that he would leave his wife and daughter behind. But I know that he was not afraid of death and I know that he is with me and Mom every day. He is brave, he is gentle, and kind, a firm believer in Jesus Christ, and he is my hero.
2. My Mother
I have never seen a woman with more strength and determination than my Mother. Throughout my life we have had to go through some rough patches. But she's always been strong. I've seen her at her weakest moments, I've seen her struggle, but she has always risen above adversity. When she served as Relief Society Pres. in Winchester Ward I remember telling her that I wanted my Mom and not a Relief Society Pres. At that time, it seemed that is all she did was serve the sisters. How selfish I was! That was her calling and where the Lord wanted her. But through her, I learned to serve. I learned to connect with adults when I was a child and for some reason, I can still connect with them better than others my own age. I watched as she took care of my Father. She had unconditional love for him. She knew that her life would never be the same, but she has always had an inner strength that has pushed her forward. I commend her for her efforts and I pray that I can be like her in the future.
3. Ma
For those of you who don't refer to her as "Ma" call her Eavy Mae. She's my Grandmother alright. Growing up with just me and Mom we spent a lot of time at Ma's house. Even though we can fight and argue like no other, and yes you probably think I'm horrible for arguing with my Grandmother but you'd just have to see it. She does it on purpose to make me angry, she gets joy out of it! But you have to love her :) She has such a strong testimony of the gospel. I have always felt comfortable with her and I cherish the moments we have talking with each other. She's always taken a genuine interest in my life and I appreciate that.
4.My Uncle Bill
He was always the Uncle that I would run to and give a hug every time I saw him at Stake Conference. Even before we moved to Decatur Ward, I felt this connection with him just like I did all of my other Uncles. He was a Spiritual Giant, and he still is. We all miss him but he has played a significant role in my life.
These are just a few people I call brave and courageous They are my "magnificient beings" and I am so glad that I have been able to associate with them in this life.
